Antonio Berardi decided to show his Spring/Summer 2014 collection in the penthouse space of an office building in London. This hinted our woman this season - oozing a casual and laissez-faire attitude, a quality we least expect from Berardi whose name is synonymous with power dresses evoking elegance and serious sex appeal.
This season he decided to let the air in and the seams out. The Berardi hourglass signature was opted for oversized and boxier shapes borrowed from the classic components of sports and leisurewear. White, red and pink sweaters were reinterpreted with a weave of luxury, with voluminous sleeves realised in organza, duchess satin and crocodile. Berardi presented biker jackets, but in duchess satin as opposed to tough leather, offered in fresh powdered shades of pinks before drawing it back to black and silver to give his girls a boyish attitude.
For eveningwear, Berardi sported the girls in short front skirts with elegant long trains to mix-and-match with the boyish sportswear. Precious strapless jumpsuits were covered in glistening glass embroidery in three-dimensional and shadows forms to enliven textural interest. Dresses were covered with lace panels to show occasional flashes of skin making it both special and seductive.
Relieving his followers from full look options and promoting mix was a wise move for Berardi, and despite his laissez-faire approach this season, the Berardi woman is still priceless, but perhaps more relevant to the contemporary lifestyle.
